What it is

At year end the same figures go into several places: the federal income tax return, your tax adviser's working papers and the community section of your impact report. The US report pack (US giving and community investment pack) takes your CorpHands data for a fiscal year and lays it out as an Excel (XLSX) or CSV file you can check and copy from.

CorpHands prepares data only. It does not file anything with the IRS, and the pack is not an official form. The deduction is an estimate before carryovers from earlier years; confirm the tax figures with your adviser. The Giving and tax page also has a CSV for the year.

What you can use it for

  • Charitable deduction: taxable income before the charitable deduction, contributions to qualified organizations, the 1% floor, the 10% ceiling, the estimated deduction and the amount carried forward.
  • Contributions: each contribution to a qualified organization with its date, the organization and its EIN, cash or non-cash, the amount and whether a written acknowledgment is on file.
  • Indicators: the GRI rows from the framework mapping.
  • Impact, Charity partners and Activities & evidence: impact metrics, your partners and each activity with approved hours and partner sign-off.

Tips and good practice

  • Set your fiscal year to match your tax year before year end, because contributions count in the tax year in which they are paid.
  • Enter taxable income on the Giving and tax page; without it the pack shows the contributions but no floor, ceiling or deduction.
  • The value of volunteer time is hours × your company's value of a volunteer hour (Settings). It is an estimate; say so when you report it.
  • Every pack download is recorded in the audit log.

Questions

Does CorpHands file our tax return?

No. CorpHands prepares the figures. Your company and its advisers file the return.

Why is a contribution not in the total?

It is not paid, not dated in the year, marked as sponsorship, not linked to an organization, or the organization has no EIN and 501(c)(3) status recorded and is not a government body. The Giving and tax page lists the records to check with the reason.
