What it is

A campaign is a theme that holds several activities together for a period of time. Think of MLK Day of Service in January or a Thanksgiving food drive in November. You give the campaign a name, dates and an optional goal in volunteer hours, then link activities to it.

The campaign page adds up the results of its activities for you: approved hours, number of activities and people helped.

To save time, start from a template: MLK Day of Service (the week up to the third Monday in January: a day on, not a day off), 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance (September 11: care packages for first responders and a blood drive), Thanksgiving food drive (an office collection and food bank sorting shifts in November), Back to school, International Volunteer Day or a Blood donation drive. Each comes with suggested dates, an hours goal and suggested activities with their logistics checklists.

What you can use it for

  • Run MLK Day of Service with half-day projects with local nonprofits and a care kit session, with one shared hours goal.
  • Collect food at every office and staff sorting shifts at the food bank in a Thanksgiving food drive.
  • Pack thank-you kits for first responders and host a blood drive on the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance.
  • Compare campaigns year over year by approved hours and people helped.

Tips and good practice

  • Only approved hours count toward the goal. Clear the queue in Hours approvals before you share campaign results.
  • If a campaign includes giving, your company pays the nonprofit directly and records the donation in the budget. CorpHands does not collect money from employees or the public.
  • A Thanksgiving food drive is volunteering and in-kind giving; a cash grant to the food bank is recorded separately in the budget, as a donation.
  • Fill in People helped on each activity after it ends, so the campaign total is complete.
