What it is
The charity directory is your company's list of partners: charities, community groups and social enterprises. For each one you record its details, contact person, areas of work and verification status, and then its registrations: the Registered Charity Number (RCN) on the Charities Regulator's public register (8 digits, starting with 20), its Revenue CHY number with the date its authorisation runs to, and its CRO number if it is a company.
The CHY number matters for tax. Revenue authorises eligible charities for the Charitable Donation Scheme, for up to five years at a time. On the Giving and reporting page, a charity's cash donations count as deductible only when it has a CHY number in force on the payment date and received at least €250 from you in the period. The RCN and the CHY number are different numbers; record both. Nothing is required and nothing is blocked, but a sponsorship request can only be approved for an organisation you have marked verified. CorpHands helps you keep records; it does not check the registers for you and is not legal or tax advice.
What you can use it for
- Record each charity's Registered Charity Number (Charities Regulator), Revenue CHY number with the date its authorisation runs to, and CRO number.
- See each registration's status on the charity's page, including a CHY authorisation that has expired or expires within 60 days.
- Store the grant agreement, latest accounts and other documents, each with its own expiry date.
- Choose the charity on an activity or donation, so the payment counts on the Giving and reporting page and in the Ireland report pack.
- See the activities and recorded donations for each charity on one page.
- Invite charity staff to the partner portal to confirm attendance, upload photo proof and sign off activities.
How to do it
Add a charity
- Open CharitiesGo to CSR workspace → Charities and click + Add charity.
- Enter the detailsFill in the charity's name, contact person, email and phone, and tick the Areas of work. Click Save.

- Manage accessUse Resend link or Deactivate when staff change.
Tips and good practice
- Before year end, open each charity you gave to and check its CHY authorisation dates on its page; the Giving and reporting page lists donations paid while a CHY number was not in force.
- Check each charity's entry on the Charities Regulator's register and its latest accounts once a year.
- Charities created from a sponsorship request start as Pending verification. Check them before approving money.
- Add the CHY number, and the date its authorisation runs to, before the year end, so cash donations to the charity can count as deductible.
- On Starter, the directory holds up to 10 charities, including those added from requests. Business and Enterprise have no limit.
Questions
Does CorpHands check the Charities Regulator's register or Revenue's lists for us?
No. You check the register and Revenue's list and record the numbers. CorpHands keeps the numbers and the CHY authorisation dates with the charity's record and uses them to decide which donations can be deducted.
Does CorpHands block donations to an organisation without a CHY number?
No. Community groups and some organisations you support are not approved bodies. CorpHands records what you have; charities with donations but no CHY number are listed as charities to check on the Giving and reporting page.
Why can't we approve a sponsorship request?
The linked organisation is not marked verified yet. Check it on the register, update the record and mark it verified.
Can a partner portal user see other charities?
No. Each partner user belongs to one charity and only sees activities your company runs with that charity.
